Dr. Steve Steinberg (MS ’94) serves as the Geospatial Information Officer (GIO) for the County of Los Angeles California where he works across departments to develop and implement geospatial strategy with a team of highly skilled GIS professionals.
Prior to joining the county, he served as Principal Scientist and department head at an environmental research agency in Orange County, California (2011-2018). From 1998-2011 he was a Professor of Geospatial Science at Cal Poly Humboldt, California. During his tenure with the University, he was honored as a Fulbright Distinguished Chair in airborne remote sensing (Simon Fraser University, Canada; 2004) and a Fulbright Senior Scholar in geospatial analysis, (University of Helsinki, Finland; 2008).
Dr. Steinberg continues to educate future professionals as an Adjunct Professor in the MS GIScience program at California State University, Long Beach, and is actively involved in geospatial leadership positions with government workgroups and professional organizations.
