For decades, activists in the Great Lakes Region have been fighting Line 5: a 645-mile long pipeline that transports crude oil and natural gas liquids from Superior, Wisconsin to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. This aging pipeline jeopardizes contaminating the Great Lakes. In 2022 and 2023, several master’s students studying Environmental Justice at the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan produced a short documentary called "Water is Life" about the Indigenous-led struggle against the pipeline.
