Whether used, as fertilizer, animal feed, or direct human consumption, seafood is a major part of our food system, but until recently it’s been missing from food movement conversations. The absence of food justice advocates has left our seafood system at the mercy of neo-liberal policies and “market based” strategies that opened the gates for agribusiness to take over our landfood system. They have turned farm animals and crops into commodities while limiting access to good food for all. Similarly, aquabusiness-oriented policies want to do the same to our seafood systems.
